Landscape & wildlife photography showcase the natural world using creativity and skills with the camera. Joe Fischer teaches everyone how to capture stunning images in a wide range of colors.

Basics

Landscape photography captures images of nature as well as wide views with mountains, rivers, and star scenes at night. It relies on creativity but can also rely heavily on camera skills. Understanding how to blend these elements is key for creating stunning photos, and Joe specializes in teaching people how to do just that. The same elements also apply to wildlife. In fact, some wildlife are are only active at dusk or dawn or only at night. Key elements to consider in landscape photography include:

Golden Hour

The periods shortly after sunrise and before sunset when the light is soft and warm. These times of day often provide the most visually pleasing and dynamic lighting conditions.

Blue Hour

The time just before sunrise and after sunset when the sky takes on a deep blue hue. This can create a serene and atmospheric quality in photos.

Getting Started

By choosing the right camera and lens combination, you’ll be on your way to start creating photos. As you gain experience you may find specific features and focal lengths that suit your style and preferences. For the most part, landscape photography uses a wide-angle lens that can take in more foreground and sky. Many people use a full frame sensor camera for improved capabilities. But, most of the latest cameras do very well including APS-C, Micro 4/3 and even cell phone cameras. I wouldn’t hesitate to use any of them. In fact, I have owned all of them and currently use a Micro 4/3 for lightweight travel and hiking.
