Each fall in California, Sandhill Cranes follow their ancient migratory routes to the wetlands. Accompanying them are millions of snowgeese that fly in huge flocks across the sky. For 2024-25, Joe offers crane and snowgeese photo tours to the wetlands. Both include a morning and evening photo shoot as well as a breakfast to review and edit your photos. Both tours have shorebirds and waterfowl so there are plenty of chances to get excellent photos! For a look at these birds, see the Gallery
Sandhill Cranes Tour
Sandhill Cranes are majestic birds known for their graceful stature. They have wingspans up to 7 feet and use a loud “kar-r-r-o-o” call that echoes across the landscape. This tour focuses on cranes and shorebirds on glassy like water. The main challenge for photographers is difficult lighting which you will learn to overcome.
Snowgeese Tour
As the northern regions freeze, millions of Snowgeese make their way to California. The sounds can be deafening, and we often see flocks of 5,000 or more at one time! The geese congregate with ducks and shorebirds turning the wetland into a stunning display of color. This tour is all about action! We’ll spend the day in search blast-offs while taking wide angle and flight action shots.
